Warning: This story is not for the faint of heart.

This story comes out of Minnesota. A 17 year old girl/woman is being charged in the death of her baby girl. The baby was born alive, and the mother admits that she saw the baby’s fingers move, so we know that the baby was alive.

generic newspaper

This mother, rather than taking her child to a safe harbor location, chose to stab the baby ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE times.

There was no doubt she wanted to make sure this baby was dead. How can someone be filled with that much rage, hate, or anger toward an innocent baby?

She gave birth to the baby at home, without her parents knowledge, killed her, and then wrapped her in a trash bag and headed to the dumpster near where she worked.

This was a living, breathing human being who deserved a chance at life.

The parents had no idea their daughter was pregnant, but someone else did. This quote is from the article as to how this was discovered.

Authorities were tipped off Tuesday when an anonymous caller told police that a cashier at a Cub Foods grocery store in St. Paul had given birth to a stillborn baby and threw it in the garbage at her home. The store manager confirmed [name] was an employee there, but said she had called in sick the past two days. Police went to her home. Her mother told officers her daughter had been sick in bed the past two days, but had gone to work that day, according to the complaint.

Someone knew this girl/woman was pregnant, and that she had disposed of the dead baby. She obviously had someone that she confided in.

She is being charged with first degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Bail is set at $1 million.

She killed her baby, and in the process, destroyed TWO lives.

As someone who has never been able to have a baby, this story angers me when it would have been so easy to prevent.

"How can someone be filled with that much rage, hate, or anger toward an innocent baby?"

The thing that struck me about this question is that I'll bet she didn't have so much anger toward the baby at all -- I'm certain that the kind of anger that let her stab well over one hundred times was actually toward herself.

How HORRIBLE that a tiny babe suffered that...simply awful beyond words to really express it....

My thought reading this is what happened to that young woman that made her feel like this was her only choice? What is it that makes young girls so afraid to tell their parents they are pregnant?

That poor baby lost it's life before having a chance to live it.
I agree with the above poster, though, that the rage the young woman felt was more likely at herself.

Eugh how horrible. I shudder to think of what the baby suffered. However, I also feel compassion for the girl, who was clearly in a very bad state emotionally and mentally. Like Lucy, I wonder why she presumably felt this was her only choice. Ramifications for such an action cannot be avoided, but I hope she receives counselling and a chance to pull her life together somewhat, rather than life imprisonment.
