If you need a good laugh, check out
this video. My husband and I were laughing because we can relate. If you have a child who fights going to bed, doesn’t like to get up, has a fit at some point during the day, or just plain breathes, you will probably laugh at this.
Have you ever read a book, seen a story or a video and know that the person who wrote it was in your house?
The first time this happened to me was when I read Nancy Thomas’ book “
When Love is Not Enough”. Our attachment therapist gave it to me and told me I needed to read it. I finished it in two days. As I was reading, I’d tap my husband on the arm, then say “You have to listen to this.” He’d listen and be as shocked as I was. I felt as if she had a hidden camera in my house and wrote about my family. It was validating to a great degree because there was someone else who lived my life and understood what I was feeling.

Another time was recently when I read Katharine Leslie’s “
When A Stranger Calls You Mom”.
I find the best books are by people who actually live our life. My favorite therapists are parents who have parented, or are parenting kids like ours as well. That’s not to say that other therapists or authors are bad or wrong, but you gain a different perspective by living this life.
I get along so well with Sammy’s foster mom, because he shows her the same behaviors he shows me. We can commiserate together. We can just mention a behavior and know exactly what he did, how the person felt, and what the end result was. Very little actual communication needs to happen.
