Hello, I am new here we are adopting our wo fosters and even though we had planned this since the day they arrived I find that all of a sudden I have questions that a social worker can not answer. So here I am.

People do say the stupidest things. I have long suspected they just like to hear themselves talk. TRhere must be an kid adopted from foster care that burn the house down in every community in America becasue I myself was given this warning today.

I agree, it is the same way with pregnancy. All pregnant ladies hear this story (sometimes from complete strangers).. the one about so and such was in "agonizing" labor for 300 hours then ended up having a c-section anyway. Sometimes this also includes a hysterectomy as well.

I am a high risk perinatal RN and if as many people had tragic birth stories or fail at breastfeeding as I have heard stories about over the years, our species would have died out long ago. It is unfortunate that people are not able to simple share someone else's joy without commenting.

I had this too from one uncle in my family. First, he told me the story of the daughter of a friend of his who was a thief, threatened the parents at gunpoint, etc.

Then, when we announced we were actively pursuing adoption, he said that we should foster first, to learn if we could love "other people's kids".

At least it was just the one person.

And the Scare the Pregnant Lady game? I worked in a cubicle near the kitchen of our office, and almost everyone was having a baby. The older women would tell their horrific labor stories, which completely cemented my decision to adopt. :0)
