I missed my
fingerprinting appointment with myself yesterday. I tell you this in case you were waiting with bated breath for the wait time at the police station.
It just seemed too much trouble to get up out of my cozy bed and get going at seven AM to stand in line with pajama guy.
Colorado has turned right chilly and we have entered into our Fall with cool mornings and crisp evenings; bright blue sky with hot days.
Beautiful Colorado!
Wonderful. Makes me want to cuddle up with my down comforter a bit longer.
Does this mean I’ve lost my motivation? Naaah.
Ok. It
is all a bit overwhelming to start the process again. You who have been there done that know exactly what I mean.
You answer that seemingly innocent open ended question:
“Why do I want to foster adopt”
and everything comes to the surface.
If you’d ever had fertility issues, or a past
foster-adoption that didn’t happen, the memories come ramming back, head on.
Whatever your reason for wanting to adopt, even if you’ve done all your emotional work before now, having to start application process all over again, can be a vast mound of
inner world digging.
Hubby and I went through all of this about five years ago when we started the process the first time. We sat on our couch as the homestudy supervisor asked us every personal question we had never thought of. It was like marriage counseling without the counselor.
Any issues you have in your marriage will be intensified through an adoption process.
Are you married?
Then you know what I mean. There are no issue free marriages.
Only great (and bad) marriages with issues.
But I guess we can use this process of an indication on how much we have grown.
Five years ago:
Homestudy supervisor:
What would happen if your child starts peeing on the walls.
Hubby:
Blank stare
Me:
Horrified.

Today:
Homestudy supervisor:
What would happen if your child starts peeing on the walls.
Hubby:
Hummm Clean it up.
Me:
Clean it up.
I'm a bit off track here. Just reminiscing.
Back to the paperwork.
For me, I have to
eat that elephant one bite at a time.
Fill out one sheet a day, or everyother day.
Maybe tomorrow I'll try for the fingerprinting again.
In the meantime I’ve found one sheet I can do today:
Draw a plan of your home including fire exists.
Ok. I’ll get started there.
