The Total Transformation program

My husband and I heard this ad on the radio the other day and we both just bursting out laughing. It is a parenting software program that is guaranteed to help you gain control of your out of control child.

Disclaimer: I have never used this product, I only know what I have read and heard in their ads.

We focus primarily on the problem behaviors that prevent a child from getting along with others: developing self-esteem, managing anger, underachievement, school performance, substance abuse, and general social problem solving. We will give you specific tools and techniques to deal with problems such as fighting, arguing with parents, lying, temper tantrums, talking back, destroying property, picking on siblings or classmates, acting sullen and withdrawn, lack of motivation, cigarette smoking, substance abuse, and behavior problems in school and in the community.

Am I the only one who is skeptical? He (James Lehman) guarantees that you will see results the first day you use it, and it doesn’t matter what your child’s diagnosis is unless it’s Autism or severe retardation.

Here, dumb mom that I am, I’ve been spending thousands of dollars on therapy, medication, residential treatment centers, psychiatrists, treatment foster care and so on, when I can get all the answers I need to help my child for the low, low price of $299.

And, I no longer need ATN or Adoption.com for parental support. Mr. Lehman offers support to parents. The first month you pay the reasonable cost of $1, each month after that you pay $29 to continue to receive support. Here I go being a dumb mom again, but I’ve been getting support from ATN and Adoption.com for free. I must have been getting low quality support since I haven’t been paying for it.

In order to get the money back guarantee, you must contact the company and receive authorization within thirty days of receipt of your package.

I’m thinking Mr. Lehman may in fact be able to help “regular” kids, but I know some RAD kids who could give him a run for his money. Will his program make the child stop killing animals? Will he teach the kids to stop smearing feces on the wall? Will it help sexually reactive kids feel safe enough to tell a parent what is going on? If he can do all that he’ll put every attachment and trauma therapist out of business.

Maybe I’m missing out on the greatest resource in the world, but I have to wonder… If his program is so great, why haven’t we heard of it before and why aren’t therapists all over the country recommending it? When Sammy was discharged from the psychiatric hospital in 2004, the psychiatrist told me to call the police next time he got out of control. Several therapists who I respect greatly recommended residential treatment. The court ordered Sammy into residential treatment and then into treatment foster care. If this program is so wonderful, why didn’t a single one of these professionals recommend it?
