In continuing with my 40th birthday theme, here are more things you didn’t know about me.

In November 1988, I packed up all my worldly possessions and moved to Dallas to be with a man I had known for just over six months. (He’s my husband now.)

My husband and I were engaged on New Year’s Eve and married in August.

I celebrated my 19th wedding anniversary two weeks ago.

I did not walk down the aisle to the traditional wedding march. Our wedding song was “Can’t Helping Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.

My husband and I were married in a wooded area behind our reception hall two weeks before my 21st birthday. The trees were planted twenty-one years before our wedding and we are the only ones to ever be married there.

Careers I have had in my life include receptionist, working for a yellow pages directory, working in a pharmacy for several nursing homes, selling generic pharmaceuticals, and an insurance agent.

I lived in Dallas and Houston with my husband until returning to Wisconsin in January, 1996.

My husband and I went through infertility treatments for over a year before deciding to adopt.

My husband has never given me a birthday cake.

In my life, I have only had three birthday parties. When I was a year old, when I was thirteen and when I turned thirty.

My maternal grandparents owned a farm so I learned how milk cows and threw hay bales on a regular basis.

The man I was engaged to before my husband was a farmer.

I have two nieces and one nephew. My nephew was adopted from Kazakhstan.

I have only been outside the U.S. twice in my life. Once when we took a cruise eight years ago, and in June when we went to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

In preparation for my 40th birthday I decided to get healthy and have lost over sixty pounds.

I want to lose another forty pounds. Yes, I was very overweight.

When I met my husband I was a size 7.

The pets I have had in my life include my first dog, Buffy, a black lab named Scamp, a cat named Flopsy that was paralyzed in the back half of her body, two cats named Smoky, a black cat named Lucky, my dog Sienna that we had to put down in March, and now my puppy, Caleb.

Flopsy gave birth to kittens on the day of my high school graduation in the pen with my dad’s black lab.

I actually like my mother-in-law and we used to have season tickets to theater events in Dallas.

To pamper myself I love to have massages, manicures and pedicures. I can’t get them very often anymore, but I sure do like them.
