K and I went out for a quick walk in the blizzard today. If you haven’t heard Colorado is having the most intense snow storm that we’ve had in nine years. Extra Macho Hubby, went to work early this morning – at five – to beat the storm. He pretty much made it all the way to work, (about twenty miles) before the roads became icy and trechorous. Of course he is almost the only one at work so he’s putting out lots of ‘fires’ and keeping the place running. I expect he’ll stay at work for most of the evening until the storm passes.
Fine with me! At least I know he’s safe.
So K and I actually went to find our almost fourteen year old lab/Shepard mix who I hadn’t seen in over an hour. He’s deaf and sick and I was worried about him out in the snow and wind.
We bundled up in our best winter gear and ventured out into the blizzard. It doesn’t do a bit of good to call for Zeb as he can’t hear a thing. He’s been deaf for about a year or so now, but we called anyway.

We turned the corner to go the our backyard, and Zeb came running toward us, tail wagging kicking up snow with his nose as if to say, Come Play! It’s fun out here!
So we did. The two doggies and K and I ran in the snow and K made snow angels and we brushed heavy wet snow from the drooping tree branches and sang made up songs about the winter.
I worry
about Rick who has been in and out of shelters with his mom. I hope she’s found a friend to stay with. I wonder about other families I’ve known who live on the fringe of society – sometimes homeless, and hope they’ve all found shelter as well.
I’m extremely grateful today to have shelter, food, and heat for our family. I love that we can play in the snow and come back in to our warm cozy house uploading photos and laughing about Zeb.
Our internet is down, so I’ll be posting this later – after the blizzard has come and gone and life is back to normal.
What a magical time it has been today.
