In a prior blog I talked about separating my private life and business life. For the most part I can do it, but there are still stories that get to me. The following is one of them.

Warning: Graphic and repulsive information and descriptions.

Last week Patrick "Booger Red" Kelly received a life sentence for his actions in child sexual abuse. What he did is heinous and his sentence is justified if not actually light.

He “taught” five children, now ages 15, 11, 10, 9 and 8 how to perform sex acts on each other. He then took these children to a swingers club and had them perform these acts on each other while people PAID to watch this. He began grooming and training these children when each was only 5 years old. And these are the children that we know about. How many other children did he abuse that haven’t come forward?

One of the defenses’ strategies was to say that the kids were lying. Since the children did not immediately tell their foster parents about therefore they must be lying. In a blog I wrote last year, I explained why children don’t tell about sexual abuse, especially while in foster care. The child has no idea whether or not this foster parent will keep them safe, and it is only when children feel safe that they begin to reveal their abuse.

The prosecution pointed out that the children had no contact with each other at the time they revealed the abuse, and each child described the same type of abuse. His own son made the same allegations against him. They also testified that they were given “silly pills.”

The jury took only two hours to convict him and ten minutes to decide his sentence. I’d say they were confident in their decisions and felt the evidence was overwhelming. Four of the five children testified in this case. They must be very strong kids with strong foster parents beside them.

The jury gave him a life sentence which was totally justified, in my opinion. The children he abused will live with this for the rest of their lives. They will never know a day without their memories or pain. The defense argued for ten years probation.

Other suspects involved in the case have already been convicted and received life sentences as well, and still others are awaiting trial.
