I am an avid knitter, and belong to the
Shawl Ministry in our church. Since we have a pretty good stock pile of shawls right now, I think I'm going to start knitting for Project Linus.
If you are not familiar with Project Linus, here is a description from their
website.
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission:
First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

You do not have to be a knitter to do this. There are
patterns for knitting, crocheting, no sew fleece blankets, and quilting.
This is a way to give back to the community, and to foster children, while doing something that you love.
My friend, Bonnie, is the director of a local homeless shelter for women and children. The shelter helps to get the women back on your feet and teach them skills for their future. Bonnie spent many years as a social worker, and is very passionate about helping the moms she works with.
Many of the moms have children in foster care, or are fighting to retain custody of their children.
We talked over the weekend about me coming in to teach the moms how to knit to be able to make something for their children. Whether it's a small washcloth, burp rags, or even learning how to make blankets.
I am looking forward to these new opportunities, and wanted to be able to share these ideas with you.
