This will be my last post until after Christmas, I have so many things going, so I am going to say Merry Christmas to all my readers. I also want to say I am blessed to have a family that I will be willingly spending Christmas with this year.
Not everyone is this blessed. As I was driving to have lunch with a friend today, I heard a song that I forgot about. It’s called “
Christmas Carol” and it’s by Skip Ewing. He is a fairly little known country music artist, but his song is one that we an all relate to.
I remember the years when I did not have children and all I wanted for Christmas was to have a child. This song is about a little girl named Carol who is looking for a family. The chorus is one that we can relate to.
She said my name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas Day
I don’t know who my daddy is, and mommy's gone away.
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home.
Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own.

I’m not a person who cries very easily, but it is a song that can tug at my heart and bring me back to the days when I would have given this child a home in a heartbeat. (Yes, I know she’s a fictional child). I can also relate to the man in the song who was playing Santa and heard this little girl’s plea. The latter part of the song says what I think many of us who didn’t or don’t have children would say at this point.
Early Christmas morning I got up and dialed the phone
I made a few arrangements at the County Children's home
And they told me it would be alright to pick her up today
Now my little Christmas Carol won't ever have to say……
Last night I was at the Women’s Guild meeting at church and we discussed the Advent Angel tree that we sponsor each year. These are families who have little or no money and have talked to the Salvation Army about the needs for their family. We “adopted” forty one people and met their needs for Christmas. This goes beyond wants. One fourteen year old boy asked for a toothbrush and some toothpaste. That’s not a want. However…. There were 560 families who qualified as “in need” for the holidays. Only 60 of those families were able to be “adopted” and receive above the minimum. Many of these families were homeless. What a horrible way to spend the holidays.
There are many people who are “homeless” for the holidays for many reasons. There are those families who truly do not have shelter. There are the children who are waiting for a family, and parents who are waiting for a child for the holidays. If you fall into any of these categories, here is a prayer for you home or family to be complete for the holidays.
If you are blessed enough to have a “complete” home and family for the holidays, send up a prayer of thanksgiving for your family, as well as a prayer for those families that don’t.
From my family to yours, have a wonderful Christmas a peace filled and joyous New Year.
