We have had intermittent service with our internet connection over the past month, but it dropped drastically in the last week where it would go out for hours at a time.
For someone who works and makes a living through the internet, this is a horrifying thing. I lose my connection to the world and can not make money. UGH!
It’s amazing how much we come to rely on the internet. I find most of my support and friends through the internet. Since I live in a rural area, there is not an abundance of parents that I can talk to that live in similar situations. I have amazing friends that I primarily connect to on-line. For us to communicate or visit any other way would be cost prohibitive. With friends in Kansas, Atlanta, Ohio and other parts of the country, we can’t meet for coffee and vent. We talk through cyber space.
There are some regularly scheduled chats on the
Adoption.com forums. Tuesday night was one of them, and my internet was up and down all night long. I was unable to chat with my friends, which is usually very fun for me. Often we do not discuss serious topics, but instead we talk about everything from cooking to vacations to jobs or whatever else happens to come up. The participants vary as much as the conversation. Missing this was disappointing to me.

I also couldn’t read my regular blogs. I read virtually all of the blogs here on
adoptionblogs.com, and I have several others that I read.
My friend, Ruby, has
a wonderful page on MySpace that talks about
Shaken Baby Syndrome. She was finalizing the adoption of her son while I was without internet access, so I couldn’t keep up with the progress.
There is another great site on MySpace by “
The Fostering Parent”. She has some great blogs about foster care.
There is
another fun blog that has nothing to do with Foster Care or Adoption, just parenting. My husband turned me onto this blog after reading her listing on E-Bay selling some Pokemon cards. This is a blog we can all relate to. If you read this, I promise you will suffer from bobblehead syndrome, or fall off your chair from laughing.
It is amazing how much we come to depend on our internet connection. But face it. If it weren’t for the internet, you wouldn’t be reading this blog right now. Give thanks for whoever invented this wonderful piece of technology.
