I’m lacing up my walking shoes and getting ready to do a 5K walk in less than two weeks. Guess I better get some exercise before then.

The Jockey Being Family Walk is being held to raise funds for Adoption Resources of Wisconsin, which I love. I don’t remember how I first got involved with them. I probably called for post adoption resources, or saw them at an adoption conference.

Jockey has been a supporter of Adoption Resources of Wisconsin for several years. They have helped to bring some incredible speakers to Wisconsin to help educate parents. They also provide Adoption Resources of Wisconsin with money to help parents find resources, get counseling, and parent support groups. I work closely with Adoption Resources of Wisconsin and in fact, we often refer people back and forth. I have received many calls that start with “Adoption Resources of Wisconsin told me to call you.” I’m glad to partner with them, even if it’s in an unofficial capacity.

Each walker has a goal to raise a minimum of $100, but it is not a requirement. Some people just pay their registration fee and walk to show support. I’m aiming to raise a lot of money to help parents, so if you want to sponsor me, just e-mail me. I’ll be happy to talk your money!

What better way to spend a Saturday than with other parents who are interested in foster care or adoption? If you’re going to be in the Kenosha area on September 8, 2007, come to LakeView RecPlex and cheer on the walkers. Some of us may be dragging to cross the finish line, but I know we’ll all make it. I may run my mouth more than feet, but that’s nothing new.

Based on my registration number, there are nearly 200 people registered right now, so it should be quite the sight.
