Do you like ice cream? Do you like kids? Would you like to make a dream come true for a child?
If you answered yes to all three of these questions, this information is for you. There is a fundraising event on September 25, 2008 that can fill all three of these.
Cold Stone Creamery is giving away free ice cream of two different flavors created by children who are on the list for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They will also be selling stars with the proceeds to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. You can go and enjoy one of these custom flavors, or just go and make a donation for this wonderful charity.
There are children in foster care everywhere and children who are adopted who are called “medically fragile.” These are children who have extreme medical conditions that require extensive medical care or whose condition is potentially terminal. These same children can qualify as wish recipients.
I blogged about medically fragile children some time ago. One of the moms I mentioned in my blog, Suz, has a daughter who will have her wish granted this fall. We are so excited for this family. They have been through the wringer but have never given up hope on their beautiful little girl. They are a strong family and they all feel blessed that they have each other. Their daughter was adopted as a medically fragile child from foster care. They were fully aware of the medical issues they would face, and chose this child for their family.
If you are not familiar with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the organization’s purpose is to grant the “wish” of a child with a life-threatening illness or disease. Someone does a referral to the organization and an evaluation and verification is made to ensure that only qualified children have their wishes granted. A wish granter personally meets the child and determines what the child’s greatest wish is. For some children it may be a trip to Disney, for others it may be meeting a celebrity.
I know some children who have had their wish granted. One of Sammy’s classmates had leukemia and things looked pretty grim for a while. She was able to take her dream trip. Several years later she is in remission and doing well, but the memory is one I know she will have for her lifetime.
Help support this group and you may be able to help grant a wish for a child in foster care.

Oooh, you are making me hungry. The closest Cold Stone to me is 3 hours away in Green Bay. Bummer.
What a cool wish!!
That is making me hungry, too. What a wonderful fundraiser. I’ll definitely have to buy a few (or a few hundred) scoops of ice cream that day.
Thank you so much for sharing that. And, thanks for a great blog.
