By the time you read this, I will be happily relaxing and beginning to experience three hours worth of treatments at our local spa. I have hired a baby sitter, so I will have the time completely to myself.
I am treating myself to some pampering by getting a facial and a pedicure. Am I being selfish? Absolutely not!
In order for us to be good parents, we need to take care of ourselves. I devote a lot of energy to my kids, as well as to other foster and adoptive families. I do not take time for myself very often, and I don’t feel guilty when I do.
What do you do for your kids’ birthdays? I’m guessing there is at least one gift, probably a cake and possibly even a party. So why do less than that for yourself? Shouldn’t your birthday be celebrated in the same manner? By doing so, you are showing your kids that you are a person separate from being a parent or spouse, and that you are worthy of being celebrated.
Sammy will not be home for my birthday, and that is a gift to me as well. He does not like for me to get attention and does everything he can to ruin the day for me. Hannah is quite excited about my birthday and is insisting that Daddy’s going to buy me a birthday cake. In 19 years together he has never gotten me one, so she is making this her mission. I am thrilled that she is so excited and wants me to have a good day. It is such a change from what I am used to.
Our family tradition is that the birthday person gets to have breakfast in bed, and gets to choose the menu as well. I always choose something easy like croissants and fresh fruit. Cooking is not my husband’s strong suit, and I’m usually not to excited by the mess he leaves when he tries to cook.
Even if it’s not your birthday today, celebrate with me. Take some time for yourself.
In case you’re wondering. It’s my first year at 39. Yes, I really am 39, it’s not an anniversary of.

Happy birthday!
You are absolutely right to give yourself special time to recharge. Caregivers are like pitchers, we can’t fill everyone’s cup if the pitcher is empty.
Happy Birthday! May you experience a joyous day today and many more days to come.
And from here, too … Happy Birthday.
Love the cake, and envy you the pampering!
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy your pampering!
Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!

{{{{Kelly}}}} Happy, happy Birthday to you! Enjoy!
How long do you plan on staying 39?
Happy B-day – and hug that sweet hubby and sweet Hannah for me (and Joe)!
Julie
39? You are SO young! Hope your day was AWESOME! (And I harped for YEARS and dropped TOTAL HINTS before my family figured out that a TCBY ice cream cake was GOING to be part of my birthday!)
