As my 5th grader is experiencing the same thing, we are probably going to start virtual school at home here shortly...

rest comfortably, knowing that when these kids graduate from high school, no one will remember or care who sounded out c-a-t first.

do what's right for your kid, their childhood flies past in a blink.

My girls, who also like school and tend to do well, as having similar issues.
I think some of our problem is the effects of the weather/time changes during this season of the year. My the kids did much better at the start of the year. Back in mid August we were at school 15-20 min early every day, the last 2 weeks we have been getting there right as the bell rings.
I am trying something new starting this week. Bed time earlier, and adding melatonin, b-complex & flaxseed oil to their diet. I am hoping to post on how this works for us. I may also try you method of the stay home/work day too, it sounds like a good motivation to me!
Good post though, and you are not alone in this struggle.
