Actually on another board, most people as long as they say they don’t know the old SS number have not had any trouble just getting a new one assigned…

Her bmom had used her ss# and name to get a phone, then made numerous calls to the psychic hotline. I was able to get it dismissed based on her age. She had to pay her mom's old electric bill, even though she could prove she was 10, before the electric company would turn on her lights for her apartment. Sad. My first adopted sons' mom attempted to use his ssn to get food stamps but was unable to do so. Another of my adult children was refused a job due to $30000 of debt on his credit report.
