We went to Boo at the Zoo last night. Brrr..
Our Zoo is lovely, a real mountain zoo with lots of steep hiking a wolf woods and the opportunity to feed giraffes. Most of the animals have lots of natural outdoor space for running and playing. – Ok, so it’s not their natural habitat, but the next best thing for them.
Since we have a Zoo membership, I go up every month or so anyway, just to walk and hang out and give K a chance to run.
Last night it was full of new wild and scary creatures – toddlers dressed up as ghosts, witches and the cartoon character of choice. We went early, even before it got dark, (although it was dark before we left) and most of the children out early were toddlers.
We’ve gone several years with various foster children in tow, and always freezed our little buns off.
This year I wanted K to be warm at least, and the costume to be easy and fuss free – hence the lion custom.
She could wear clothes underneath – regular shoes, and best of all it only cost $5.00 at the thrift store.
K spent the evening running from candy stand to candy stand growling and generally being cute. She marveled at the carved pumpkins and the white and orange tree lights and owed and aughed at the goings on.
Hubby and I still froze our buns off.
A few years ago we went with a pile of new and ex-foster children and plenty of adults – I think there were five adults and ten children, but still one of the older children took the hand of the youngest child and ran out of sight. We spent the next hour searching for them.
This year we didn’t take any other children with us.
We had a small family outing in a safe controlled environment.
Fun for K, fun for us.
Next week we go trick or treating in a nursing home! Stay tuned.

Boo at the Zoo. I think Columbus was having one. We didn’t make it. Busy schedules suck.
