Bake Sale for Childhood Hunger

I love to bake, and unfortunately, I love to eat what I bake. My round shape proves that.

Even more unfortunately, there are many children who go hungry every day. Many children in foster care have been deprived of food due to either abuse or neglect. When Kory came to our home it was obvious that he had been hungry quite often. He ate anything you put in front of him, and lots of it.

There is a way to help kids out and still have fun in the process. The Great American Bake Sale helps fight childhood hunger. This is not a large bake sale held in one central location, but rather, many small bake sales held across the country.

The “official” dates to hold your bake sale are between March 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008. You can hold your event outside of these dates and still contribute money. One of the neat things about this bake sale is that the website gives you everything you need to hold the bake sale, except for the baked goods. It includes flyers, radio announcements, recipes, thank you letters and so much more. All you have to do is get people to donate their baked goods. I have yet to see a bake sale that has had problems getting people to bake.

If you don’t want to be the one planning this and doing most of the work, you can search for a bake sale in your area.

What if you want to contribute but the only thing you can bake is charcoal? You can still donate by giving money (see the link for the frequently asked questions at the bottom of the page), you can find a bake sale in your area and go purchase some great food, or if you want to head to the Twin Cities, you can go to the Mall of America today and see Sandra Lee and Duff Goldman (who I love) both from Food Network. They will be signing books, attempting to create a world record cupcake and raising money for kids.

Whatever you do, just get active and help these hungry kids.
