Kentucky is offering the
first license plate that actively supports and promotes adoption.
The license plate has the logo of
Kentucky’s Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) along with their motto of “Be A Forever Family – Adopt.”
The license plate is not a guaranteed issue yet, but if it receives a commitment, or request for at least 900 plates within the next year, it will go into production.
This is an amazingly easy way to promote special needs adoption. If you’re an adoptive parent, how much time do you spend on the road, and how many cars do you encounter every day? Each one will see your license plate and it just might plant a seed.
The money made from this license plate will go to an organization called “
Jamie’s Sake.” Jamie’s Sake is a non-profit group that works to promote adoption awareness and placing children.

This would be the first license plate of its kind. Other states offer license plates with the motto “Choose Life” and still others have child abuse prevention awareness plates. The Choose Life plates have come under much controversy with the Pro Choice group. Part of the argument is that the plate does not state that it’s advocating and supporting adoption.
Here is Wisconsin, we have a plate that says “Celebrate Children” and the money goes to the
Children’s Trust Fund who has several initiatives to prevent child abuse. Indiana has the “Kids First” plate with the money going to a similar organization.
I know I’d happily spend the additional money to get a license plate that promoted adoption. Maybe more states will follow Kentucky’s lead and offer this option. My car already has a bumper sticker promoting adoption, but it doesn’t have the added benefit of financially supporting an organization that works to help place children in adoptive homes. Would you spend an extra $10 for this cause?
