Are you looking for a new job? There is a list of the top 100 adoption friendly businesses based on number of weeks of paid leave for adoptive parents, financial reimbursement of adoption expenses and if additional money is available for special needs adoption.

The top rated business is Citizens Financial Group in Providence, RI. They offer $20,960 in adoption financial assistance as well as 1 week paid leave for adoptive parents.

Most of the companies are larger companies with more than 500 employees. There is one glaring exception. It’s the company in position number 8.

South Mountain Company in West Tisbury, MA. It only has 30 employees, yet it offers up to $10,00 in financial assistance and up to four weeks of paid leave for adoptive parents.

Another interesting thing is that Wendy’s, whose founder, Dave Thomas, started the list does not even fall into the top 20 companies. They are listed as number 21.

So, who made the top ten?

1. Citizens Financial Group, Inc.
2. CMP Technology
3. Timberland
4. JPMorgan Chase
5. Avon Products, Inc.
6. American Century Investments
7. Fannie Mae
8. South Mountain Company
9. The McGraw Hill companies
10. (tie) Abbott Laboratories
10. (tie) Leo Burnett
10. (tie) Subaru of America
10. (tie) TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc.

The list is heavily stacked on the East coast.

So, who has the longest paid leave? Deutsche Bank in New York, and The Washington Trust Company in Rhode Island both offer a sixteen week paid leave. WOW!

I am happy to say that two Wisconsin companies made the list. Harley Davidson came in at number 57 and Mercy Health System of Janesville, WI came in at number 94.

If you’re looking for a new job, why not choose a company that is already adoption friendly? You can find the full list of companies or find out how your company can be more adoption friendly on the Adoption Friendly Workplace website.

I wouldnt go out on a linb to say that Wendy's is an adoption friendly business. I was working for them when I found myself in an unplanned pregnancy, they did nothing to help. Once I decided on adoption, the people at the Dave Thomas Foundation couldnt even give me info as to where to go from that point. I was told they were only interested in finding homes for older children with in foster care. Is that really fair? Should a child have a home no matter what their age?

WOW! Yes, a child should be allowed to be placed in a family no matter what.

That's too bad that they had zero resources for you, especially at such a tough time. It's true that their focus is on the kids it is most difficult to place- older and special needs foster kids.
