While perusing some news articles, I stumbled across a website that I wish I had never seen, but it needs to be out there.
The website, Minor Topics: News and Discussion of Interest to Parents has a section on child abuse. The stories are very short, but it doesn’t matter how long they are, they are horrific.
There is a story that caught my attention because it’s about the Green Bay Packers, sort of. It seems that a father who is a Packer fan taped a Packers jersey to his son because the son refused to wear the jersey. No charges are being filed because he didn’t do anything illegal. Illegal no, stupid certainly!
Some of the other stories will make you cringe or make you sick. One father beat his infant daughter to death because he wanted a son. Excuse me? I thought this went out in biblical times.
Another story from Hawaii says that a father threw his infant child off a highway overpass. Police were unable to determine if the child was already dead or if the fall and subsequent results were the cause of death.
In case you think the website only “targets” fathers, they do not. There is another story of a mother who put her seven year old son in the oven and burned him as a form of punishment.
One of the most disgusting stories is disgusting both in the content and the resulting punishment for the mother, and I use the term loosely.
Shamia Lawson of Baltimore, MD put her nine year old son in the tub, poured five pots of boiling water over him, injuring him to the point where he now requires skin grafts, reconstructive surgery and will need both physical and emotional therapy. In case that abuse wasn’t bad enough, she then forced the child to clean the kitchen despite his extreme pain. She only took him to the hospital after four days of excruciating pain.
Her sentence for this hideous crime is, get this……… six months in jail. WHAT? This child will live the rest of his life with both the physical and emotional scars for the rest of his life and she gets a whopping six months in jail? Am I the only one appalled by this?
I’m glad there is a site like this to shed light on some of these horrid child abuse cases, but I am sad that we actually need to do this. I wish that child abuse cases were few and far between, but we all know they are not. I hope they continue to bring these cases to light. Maybe some one in the general public will decide that enough is enough and force lawmakers to make some changes.

No, you are not. Six months in jail? Sic months?
Maybe the women there will be very angry, I would be.
I was on a forum where the mothers were talking about how a child can be taken away from parents who are too AP!
I can’t comprehend why things are so insane and unfair. She should at least get 20 years! arg!
The incident re. the toddler dropped off an overpass in Honolulu on 1/17 involved a neighbor, age 23, who has a history of emotional problems. The father has an alibi, as he is currently in prison. The mother, her boyfriend, and the boy’s grandfather all seem to be pointing fingers at each other. Horrible crime, whomever is involved. — Rachel
