Today was an eventful day.

conflicted

Sammy was having his second visit with the potential treatment foster parents. Unless he blew it over the weekend, they would take placement of him next week.

Well….. he decided to try something he hasn’t pulled out of his bag of tricks for quite a while. He decided to steal something from a public place. When we met the foster parents on Monday, the dad indicated that he would not allow theft or destruction of his home. We have had problems with Sammy stealing for the entire 8 years he has been with us, but for the past 7 years, it’s always been from home.

About 4:30, foster dad called us to tell us what happened, that they were taking Sammy back to the RTC, and that they would not be accepting placement of him.

Now it’s back to the drawing board and finding a new placement. I really didn’t expect him to pull things like this so quickly. He’s usually sweet & charming for a while and then introduces people to his behaviors in a gradual way.

We received the call from the foster dad as we were on our way back from a meeting with Hannah’s parents. We had “the talk” with her, telling her that she is not going home, and will be living with us.

She accepted the news with absolutely no drama, which is unusual for her. It probably wasn’t a big shock, since she and I had played “what if” scenarios and talked about the reality of how she felt about her family. As a measure of how little she is attached to her family, after her Mom told her that she was going to be living with us, Hannah said “does this mean I can call her Mommy now?”

She was very hyper the rest of the day. When we got home we did some cuddle time, and tried to talk a little bit about how she was feeling, but she was way too wound up to really have any discussions. We let her know that it was OK to feel all of her feelings, whether it was mad, sad, happy, scared, or even confused.

The next few weeks should be very interesting around our house.
