Kentucky is offering the first license plate that actively supports and promotes adoption.

The license plate has the logo of Kentucky’s Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) along with their motto of “Be A Forever Family – Adopt.”

The license plate is not a guaranteed issue yet, but if it receives a commitment, or request for at least 900 plates within the... more

While I was researching the Kyle Busch Foundation, I discovered that many NASCAR drivers have started foundations that benefit kids. Following is a list of the foundations. There may be one here that can help your child.

The Dale Jarrett Foundation – This foundation is very broad in the scope of what they do and their mission statement. for the religious, physical, social and educational needs of children and families trying... more

I have been watching many hours of NASCAR coverage this weekend, or rather I have been exposed to it, since there have been rain delays and my husband is anxiously awaiting the start of the race.

However, I did learn something interesting and helpful to our kids during all this coverage.

The Kyle Busch Foundation focuses on helping kids live in a safe environment.

To that end, they are working with NASCAR and sponsoring six fundraising walks at race tracks across the country this year. All the... more

Ladies, here is something I think we can all get excited about and would be happy to attend. I know I could find child care for this!

In Catoosa County, Georgia, single women went to a fundraiser where they bid on a date with a bachelor. The money raised went to the Catoosa Foster and Adoptive Parent Association.

Now I know what you’re thinking – you’re married. Yes, I am but I’m not thinking of a date. I’m thinking of... more

Safe Haven laws

Virtually every state in the country has a Safe Haven law.

What is a safe haven law? This allows a new parent to safely leave their child with a responsible person rather than abandoning the child or doing something even worse. The parents are free from prosecution, if they follow the regulations of the safe haven laws.

The laws vary by each state, so if you, or someone you know, is considering this, please check the regulations for the state. The child will then be placed in foster care and receive care and services.

So how do the regulations vary... more

Yoga and kids

One of the parents on the ATN lists asked about using yoga for kids. Kids in foster care or in a special needs adoption placement are stressed. Is this home going to be “the” home? How long before I move again? Is anyone here going to hurt me? Will I get to see my brother and sisters?

Yoga is a wonderful way to help relieve stress. Nancy Thomas has taken a lot of criticism for her use of “strong sitting” with kids. It’s really just a form of yoga. Strong sitting involves a child sitting... more

A friend turned me onto a really neat website. While I was looking around on there, it led me to another website. Let me tell you about them.

Band Together

The headline on the website reads:

Built for youth. Powered by youth. Changing life in foster care.

The young people who have developed this organization and website are amazing. This website is designed specifically for kids in foster care. It empowers them to make changes to the... more

zebra walking shoe

I’m lacing up my walking shoes and getting ready to do a 5K walk in less than two weeks. Guess I better get some exercise before then.

The Jockey Being Family Walk is being held to raise funds for Adoption Resources of Wisconsin, which I love. I don’t remember how I first got involved with them. I probably called for post adoption resources, or saw them at an adoption conference.

Jockey has been a supporter of Adoption Resources... more

junior achievement

For most of Sammy’s elementary years in school I was a Junior Achievement volunteer. This put me in the school, and directly into his classroom for a series of five sessions, about 30 – 45 minutes long each time. I got to know the kids in his class, the teachers and other faculty at the school quite well. It was a great thing when I needed extra help or services for him. I also taught other grades besides his, so I knew the upcoming teachers and who would work the best with his personality.

I didn’t go Junior Achievement... more

cap fund

There is an incredible event that goes on every year in the Milwaukee area. It is hosted by a country music station. WMIL FM106.1, along with Child Abuse Prevention Fund, hosts the CAP Fund Care-A-Van for kids.

It is a huge fund raiser to help prevent child abuse. I have been a contributor for several years, and the money they raise is amazing. I think the lower end of the spectrum has been around $300,000 and I remember some higher years of around $500,000.

There are several things that they do each year.
