Four children who were abused in two separate foster homes, have won a $6.2 million dollar lawsuit.
In an article in the Seattle Post Intelligencer, it states that a young boy escaped his foster home in 1998 rather than endure another beating. He flagged down a police officer who wanted to take him home. The boy didn’t want to return because he feared another beating, so he gave the officer his aunt’s name and address. An investigation was done and the boy was removed.

My husband loves to watch the TV show COPS. The episode that was just on was from 1999 and was based in Indianapolis. It showed a small glimpse into the world of child abuse and neglect.
The officer is responding to a call at approximately 10:00 P.M. “Neighbors” at the motel report that there are small children locked on a balcony and they are afraid the children are going to fall. When the officer arrives, there are two children, a little boy about 2 years old, and a little girl a year old or less. They are outside a motel room... more

My husband sends me links to articles that might be potential blog material. A few links he sent me have my blood boiling.
The first one is a story out of Atlanta.
A vegan couple were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the death of their malnourished 6-week-old baby boy, who was fed a diet largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice.
Superior Court Judge L.A. McConnell imposed the mandatory sentences on Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31. Their son, Crown Shakur, weighed just 3 1/2 pounds... more

Some days I hate it when blog material slaps me in the face. I initially heard this story on the news last night, and waited to get more information before blogging about it.
A 19 month old little girl was killed on Tuesday. The death is being ruled a homicide. What makes this death even more tragic is that the parents were under investigation for child abuse. This senseless death could have so easily been prevented. The workers and the department are now under investigation.
This statement was released by Kevin R. Hayden,... more
Warning: This story is not for the faint of heart.
This story comes out of Minnesota. A 17 year old girl/woman is being charged in the death of her baby girl. The baby was born alive, and the mother admits that she saw the baby’s fingers move, so we know that the baby was alive.

This mother, rather than taking her child to a safe harbor location, chose to stab the baby ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE times.
There was no doubt she wanted to make sure this baby was dead. How can someone be filled with that much rage, hate,... more
Let me preface this by saying, I am not a fan of Angelina Jolie, and I don’t feel it’s fair for celebrities to get preferential treatment in adoption. That being said, this is the latest story about Ms. Jolie’s adoption.

Angelina Jolie departs from Vietnam with newly adopted son
Hanoi (Vietnam), March 22. (AP): Angelina Jolie and her newly adopted 3-year-old son left Vietnam in a private jet on Wednesday, en route to the boy's new home in the United States.

My husband told me about the link to this story. This story gives foster parents a bad name.

Before you go to the story, let me warn you, the descriptions and photos are horrific. I have seen and heard many stories of child abuse. This one ranks up there with Dave Pelzer’s story.
With that warning, here are some excerpts.

My husband passed me an article that is both heart breaking and frightening.

The story comes from The Columbus Dispatch. According to the story, a 13 year old boy is currently facing 128 FELONY charges in Athens County Juvenile Court.
The list of charges is unreal. They include burglary, theft, vandalism, witness intimidation, stealing checks from elderly people, and breaking into both homes and businesses. Apparently he beat... more
On the news tonight, I saw two stories that broke my heart.

The first story was about a newborn baby abducted from a hospital in Lubbock, TX. My in-laws live near Lubbock, so the story really caught my attention.
The 3-day-old black baby girl, Mychael Darthard-Dawodu, was kidnapped Saturday morning from Covenant Lakeside Hospital by someone posing as a hospital employee, police said.
The baby has jaundice, so her safe return and treatment are critical.
Following that story, was the report of a missing 6 year old boy in Georgia.
