Britney Spears video

I never thought I’d blog about Britney Spears twice in my lifetime, much less twice in less than thirty days, but it’s a hot topic.

In a prior blog, I talked about the abuse allegations against her. With her very public performance, and the things that have been reported from “behind the scenes”, I can’t help but wonder if there will be more allegations coming.

If you haven’t seen or heard this, Britney made her “comeback” in a performance on the MTV video... more

britney spears

I usually don’t really care what celebrities do with their time, but this series of news articles caught my attention for several reasons.

Obviously, someone being investigated for child abuse is going to catch my eye, and her being a celebrity makes you take notice even more, which is what newspapers count on. However, when I read the various news reports... more

adult playing video game

This story is a new twist and child abuse. I’ve heard all kinds of stories on child abuse and child neglect, but this one takes the cake.

This story comes from Reno, NV. It seems that a couple had both of their children removed because of severe neglect. They were addicted to video games to the point that they grossly neglected their children.

Their 11 month old daughter weighed ten pounds, and had to have her head shaved... more

justice system

There is an interesting report coming out of Rhode Island. There is a federal lawsuit against the Rhode Island Department of Children, claiming that they have the highest rates of abuse and neglect against foster children in the United States. The lawsuit is filed on behalf of 3,000 different children. That right there says a lot.

We all know that the social services departments across the country need some serious reform. This article highlights some of the areas that need the biggest changes. Here are some of the complaints... more

amber alert stamp

I had previously blogged about a horrible case of child abuse in Wisconsin. More information has come to light on this case, and it is quite disturbing.

If you’re not familiar with the case, four children were found in a house in a small town in Wisconsin. An eleven year old boy was severely abused, his fifteen year old sister had participated in his abuse, and then helped two other adults murder and bury her mother in the front yard.

Queen Latifah causing a stir

queen latifah

I don’t watch Ellen, but over on the Christian Adoption blog, Marie wrote about a statement that Queen Latifah made on the Ellen Degeneres show. It seems that Queen Latifah (aka Dana Adams) wants to adopt children. OK, not really newsworthy these days, lots of celebrities are doing it.

Part of what makes this newsworthy is that she wants to adopt from the states, and that she wants to adopt children “from the hood”. From the news clips... more

You've got to be kidding

confused

This story is coming out of the UK, and I’m praying it doesn’t make it to the states.

The Fostering Network in the UK is looking to ban foster parents who smoke from taking in any child under the age of 5, and set no age limit if the child is unable to go outside due to a physical disability, or suffers from a respiratory illness.

OK, I get this to an extent. Children should not be exposed to second hand smoke, we all get that. But to NEVER place a child with a foster parent because of this issue alone is just plain ridiculous.

According... more

sad kids

Since I am on my way to Kansas, it seems fitting to blog about these two stories coming out of Kansas right now.

The first story is on MSNBC.com. It says that child endangerment cases are on the rise in Sedgwick County, Kansas. This is the county that Wichita, KS is in.

The article says that Wichita Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS) is working an average of 100 more cases per month, and if this... more

generic newspaper

There is a hideous story coming out of north central Wisconsin. It’s been going for about a week and I’ve been following it fairly closely. Today I learned even more details, which certainly pertain to this blog.

In the small town of Portage, WI (near Wisconsin Dells) an 11 year old boy was discovered in a home the victim of serious child abuse. His mother was also abused and her body was found buried in the yard.

The 11 year old was found locked in a closet, beaten, malnourished, and scalded with hot water. The burns on his... more

father and child

Just in time for Father’s Day, this report in USA Today. It says that the number of single men adopting children is on the rise. In 1998, 669 single men became adoptive parents, and that number climbed to 1,483 in 2005. How awesome. The number of single adoptive fathers has more than doubled since 1998, but still only comprises 3% of the adoption population.

There is some even better news involved in this. Single men are generally adopting older... more
