I am an avid knitter, and belong to the Shawl Ministry in our church. Since we have a pretty good stock pile of shawls right now, I think I'm going to start knitting for Project Linus.

If you are not familiar with Project Linus, here is a description from their website.
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission:
First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of... more
I promised to blog about the man that I talked to at the school counselor’s conference.
His name is Steve Sawyer and he works at Alternatives in Psychological Counseling, as well as running Eagle’s Vision Wilderness Program.

I was very impressed with him, and his programs. He gets our kids. He has worked with them at some tough “schools for boys.”
The wilderness... more
Julie blogged about a great bumper sticker that she saw “Been there, still there.” I want one of those!

Her blog reminded me of a song, which I think many of us can relate to. Whenever it comes on the radio, I crank it, and sing right along. Here it is.
Artist/Band: Atkins Rodney Lyrics for Song: If You're Going Through Hell Lyrics for Album: If You're Going Through Hell
Well you know those times When you feel like there's a sign there on... more
My husband is a huge NASCAR fan, and during race season, our house comes to a halt on Sunday afternoons, and occasionally Saturday nights. Today was the “granddaddy” of all races, the Daytona 500. I know not to schedule family events on this day.

By osmosis, and continued exposure to the races, I have come to know the names of most of the racers. I could even name quite a few car numbers and sponsors.
Even if you’ve never watched a NASCAR race, you have surely heard some of the big names in racing. Dale Earnhardt springs... more
In a previous post, I wrote about a song that is on the radio now. John Michael Montgomery had a new song come out a year or two after we adopted Sammy. When he heard it, he said he liked it because it reminded him of his life now. His parents were not killed, but he was able to look past that part of the song, and see how the changes and the new home mirrored his.

According to urban legend, this is a true story, but the song's writers say there is no truth... more
If you’re like me, you have a hard time coming up with creative ideas for gifts for your partner. My husband is getting increasingly difficult to shop for. The things he wants are out of my price range.

A neat idea showed up in my e-mail this morning. I receive several e-newsletters, and this one happened to be from About.Com. It gave links for stores that have to do with different disabilities that your child may have, or other charities you may want to help. There are shops for FAS and Autism, pediatric cancer and AIDS, and... more
On the way home from running errands today, I heard a very powerful song on the radio, and I had to share it.

The song is Alyssa Lies by Jason Michael Carroll. I’ll put the lyrics at the end of this blog, but here is a little background. A little girl makes a friend on the playground, and the friend’s name is Alyssa. The friend goes home and tells her dad about Alyssa. She says that Alyssa lies, and tries to hide the bruises. Dad hears his daughter playing and is going to intervene, but before he can, Alyssa dies.

Focus on the Family is a nationwide political (although they pretend not to be) and religious powerhouse. For those not in the know, Focus on the Family is a conservative religious organization that focuses on traditional family values.
They bring with them much controversy, and depending upon your own political leanings, you may or may not vehemently agree with their point of view.
Their building reaches up into the sky mimicking the moutains in Colorado Springs and the visitor center here gets a boatload of visitors every day.
They have several... more
The American Academy of Pediatrics has a special section for doctors who specialize in foster and adoption issues. They’ve only had this special section since 2000, so I presume it is still a growing and changing part of their society.
You can search for a doctor by state on the site, who specialized in foster and adoption issues, but alas, there wasn’t one listed in the whole of Colorado – although my doc knows a think or two about foster children having seen a few in his career.
There's an abstract of children in foster care, which I mostly read. Most of it seemed common sense to me, but I suppose the... more
In a previous post I linked to an organization called Old Bags, which takes donated handbags and auctions them off for foster children charity in Saint Louis.
I mused,.....Lets all get together and donate our old handbags, and maybe buy a new one?
What? Well, do you have any sitting around in your closet that you haven't used... more
